In 2024, Fujian Province received a total of 649 million tourist visits, representing a year-on-year growth of 13.5%. Total tourist spending amounted to RMB 835.114 billion, with a year-on-year growth of 19.6%. Throughout the year, the province welcomed 3.649 million inbound tourist visits, a year-on-year increase of 111.8%. Spending by inbound tourists reached USD 40.2 billion, growing by 128.5% year-on-year. Rural tourism in Fujian attracted 220.93 million visits, up 12.6% year-on-year, with total spending of RMB 105.18 billion, an increase of 16.1%. Fujian possesses distinct advantages for developing its cultural and tourism industry. Firstly, it boasts superior natural ecology. Fujian is China's first National Ecological Civilization Pilot Zone, maintaining the highest forest coverage rate in the country for many years, with consistently excellent atmospheric and environmental quality. Its mainland coastline stretches 3,752 kilometers, ranking second nationally. Fujian hosts 5 UNESCO World Heritage sites (including Wuyi Mountain), 3 UNESCO Global Geoparks, 1 National Park, and 13 (12 locations) 5A-level tourist attractions, making it the second province in China where every city has a 5A-level attraction. Fujian has extensive and high-quality geothermal resources, with 215 discovered hot spring sources, ranking fourth nationally. Second, Fujian has a profound cultural heritage. The province is deeply rooted in culture, with a broad cultural lineage and vibrant cultural atmosphere. Influences from Zhu Xi Culture, Minnan Culture, Hakka Culture, Mazu Culture, and Maritime Silk Road Culture are widespread and enduring. Fujian is a major province for traditional theater, home to 23 active local opera genres. Puxian Opera and Liyuan Opera are among the oldest extant opera forms in China. Fujian has 5 National Historical and Cultural Cities, 169 National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units, and 9 projects inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List. It has won 19 Wenhua Awards and 20 Plum Performance Awards. Thirdly, Fujian enjoys prominent geographical advantages. It connects the Yangtze River Delta to the north and the Pearl River Delta to the south, facing Taiwan across the sea, giving it a clear strategic location. In recent years, Fujian has achieved significant leaps in transportation infrastructure development. It is the first province in China where every city is connected by high-speed rail, every county by expressways, every town by main roads, and every village by bus services. A high-speed rail loop around Fujian completes a circuit in 6 hours, while the Fuzhou Metropolitan Area and the Xiamen-Zhangzhou-Quanzhou Metropolitan Area achieve one-hour connectivity. Fujian operates 6 civil aviation airports with nearly 400 routes connecting to major cities worldwide. Fourthly, Fujian is rich in revolutionary resources. It is the site of the two Gutian Conferences, where revolutionary legacy has been passed down through generations, and heroic deeds are celebrated enduringly. Chairman Mao Zedong wrote illustrious poems such as the New Year's Day—to the tune of Ru Meng Ling and the Double Ninth—to the tune of Cai Sang Zi, as well as important articles like A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire and the Investigation of Caixi Township here. Fujian has 69 former revolutionary base counties (cities, districts), numerous revolutionary sites and relics, and ranks among the top nationally in the quantity of revolutionary cultural relics. The province upholds a glorious tradition of "Mutual Support" (between the military and civilians), being the only province in China where all its cities have been consecutively awarded the title of "National Model City for Mutual Support" for five consecutive terms.
Upon implementing a digitalization strategy in the cultural industry, Fujian will speed up the development of new cultural enterprises, formats, and consumption patterns, and vigorously develop cultural industries that include a digital culture, film, television, and performing arts. By 2025, we will strive to make the cultural industries account for over six percent of the province’s GDP.
