PA6 (Polyamide 6), also known as Nylon 6, is a type of polyamide resin. As the thermoplastic resin, PA6 is made through spinning and molding after caprolactam melted utilizing polycondensation. It is white, cylindrical particles, soluble in phenol and hot concentrated sulfuric acid, characterized in good resiliency, excellent electrical insulation property, extremely high abrasive resistance, good alkali resistance and corrosion resistance, poor light resistance. At present, PA6 engineering plastics are widely applied in such fields as the automobile industry, mechanical industry, electronic and electrical industry, daily-use products and chemical and building materials industry. In 2021, China’s consumption of PA6 plastics was approximately 6,270,000t, but around 80% was imported from overseas. In 2022, China’s demand for PA6 is predicted to reach around 6,650,000t. As a result, it is very necessary to expand the production of PA6 engineering plastics. Caprolactam production facilities of the biggest scale and highest technological level in China have been built in the New Materials Industrial Park of Lianjiang Kemen Economic Development Zone, with a total scale of 1,000,000t/a, among which Phase I of 400,000t/a will be put into production, capable of providing high-quality caprolactam for the production of PA6 plastics.

The development of Fujian's new materials industry is accelerating, with increasing industrial clustering effects, gradual improvement of the innovation system, and continuous enrichment of new material varieties. A group of leading backbone enterprises has been cultivated, including CATL, San'an Optoelectronics, Wanhua Chemical (Fujian), Xiamen Tungsten, Fuyao Glass, Tsingshan Group, Zijin Mining Group, Highsun Group, and Eversun Group. Leveraging the driving role of these leading enterprises, Fujian has established a number of distinctive new materials clusters with certain influence domestically and internationally, focusing on optoelectronic information materials, advanced chemical materials, new energy materials, advanced non-ferrous metal materials, rare earth new materials, stainless steel, and advanced textile functional materials. 4 industrial clusters have been selected as national-level characteristic clusters for small and medium-sized enterprises: the Fuzhou Changle Textile New Materials Cluster, the Shaowu Fluorine New Materials Cluster, the Jinjiang Sports Shoes Raw and Auxiliary Materials Cluster, and the Wuping Display Module and Material Manufacturing Cluster. The Ningde Wanwu Stainless Steel Industrial Park has been recognized as a national-level new industrialization demonstration base.
