RMB 2.16B Invested in Zhangzhou’s 10 Marine Fishery Projects

On August 16, the Fujian Province Marine Culture Exchange & Marine Fisheries Investment Promotion Event was held in Dongshan County, Zhangzhou City. 10 marine fishery projects in Zhangzhou were signed during the event, with a total investment of RMB 2.16 billion.

The event was attended by Zhang Zheng, Deputy Director of the Publicity and Education Center of the Ministry of Natural Resources; Chen Yong, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee; Weng Xinping, Deputy Director of the Fujian Provincial Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries; Zheng Limin, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Zhangzhou Municipal Committee/Vice Mayor/Secretary of the CPC Party Working Committee of the Gulei Development Zone; Xie Shi, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University; Chen Chunsheng, former CPC Party Secretary of Sun Yat-sen University; Yu Xingguang, former Director of the Third Institute of Oceanography of the Ministry of Natural Resources; and Chen Zhiping, President of the Chinese Society of Ming Dynasty History.

Co-hosted by the Publicity Department of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, Fujian Provincial Bureau of Ocean and Fisheries, and the Zhangzhou Municipal People’s Government, the event centered on the theme “Revitalizing the Ocean through Culture, Striving for Maritime Strength”. It featured a series of activities, including the unveiling of the “National Marine Awareness Education Base” and “Zero-Carbon Conference” plaques; the release of Silk Road Sail Songs: A Brief History of Southeast Maritime Civilization, a new book on marine culture; the unveiling of “China National Geography: Discovering China’s Beauty 2025 Fujian Island Tour” themed routes; the signing of marine fisheries projects; investment matchmaking sessions for the marine fisheries sector; and keynote speeches by experts and scholars. These activities fostered multidimensional exchanges in maritime culture and industrial collaboration while deepening the integration of marine culture and tourism.

In recent years, Zhangzhou has steadily advanced its “Maritime Zhangzhou” initiative. In 2024, the city recorded a total fishery output value of RMB 34.61 billion and an aquatic product output of 2.2983 million tons. Both figures ranked second in the province, while the growth rate placed third. During the project signing session of this event, Zhangzhou secured agreements for 10 marine fishery projects, totaling RMB 2.16 billion in investment. Covering industries, scientific research, and cultural tourism, these projects are expected to drive high-quality growth in the marine economy. Among them, 6 projects exceeded RMB 100 million each, including the Longhai Modern Fisheries Industrial Park, the Gulei Seafood Cold Chain Logistics Base & Supporting Infrastructure, Dongshan County Zhonggang Aquatic Food, Xingchen Town Beibu Gulf Shellfish Farming, the Pupu Supermarket Zhangzhou Aquatic Food, and the Wangtian Tourism Factory.

Moving forward, Zhangzhou will capitalize on its maritime strengths by implementing the “Deep Blue Initiative”, the “Blue Granary Project”, and the “Beautiful Harbor Project”. The city aims to accelerate the transformation of its marine fisheries sector and further establish itself as a key hub for the high-quality development of the marine economy.
