The Matchmaking Conference of "Silk Road Investment" in Economic and Trade Cooperation Development was held on Sept 9 as a sideline event of the ongoing China International Fair for Investment and Trade in Xiamen, Fujian province.

The conference, sponsored by the Department of Commerce of Fujian Province and organized by the Fujian International Economic Cooperation Center, was one of the matchmaking activities held during the CIFIT to help Chinese enterprises go global and promote cooperation among the countries and regions along the Silk Road.

Chen Jing, deputy director-general of the department, said the conference was held to display some overseas zones, provide diversified choices for Chinese enterprises that are willing to invest abroad, promote communication between the enterprises and overseas high-quality zones, help them reach cooperation and achieve mutually beneficial and win-win development.

In recent years, the department has been advancing outbound investment. By the end of 2021, Fujian enterprises had invested in the construction of more than 10 overseas economic zones, according to Chen.

Chen added that the department will continue to strengthen policy support and investment promotion to guide and help Fujian enterprises go global and expand new development space.

At the conference, Khatibu Markenga, consul general of Tanzania in Guangzhou, and Luc Comlan Ebah, economic and commercial counselor of Benin in China, introduced the development of their countries, investment opportunities and key investment areas.

Three overseas economic and trade cooperation zones that have investments by Fujian enterprises and are located in Cambodia, Ghana, and Nigeria were promoted at the matchmaking activity.

Fujian commerce officials also introduced supporting policies for outbound investment to enterprise representatives. The participating enterprises actively communicated and discussed with the zones and a number of preliminary cooperation intentions were reached.
