The reporter learned from the People’s Bank of China (PBOC) on April 2 that, on the basis of the previous pilot areas, the PBOC has added Tianjin City, Chongqing City, Guangzhou City in Guangdong Province, Fuzhou City and Xiamen City in Fujian Province, and six cities hosting the Asian Games in Zhejiang Province as pilot areas.
Since 2017, the trial of digital RMB research and development has been steadily advanced and carried out in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, Xiong’an New Area, Hebei Province, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, Shanghai City, Hainan Province, Changsha City, Hunan Province, Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, Qingdao City, Shandong Province, Dalian City, Liaoning Province, and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, basically covering different regions such as the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, as well as the Central, West, Northeast and Northwest China.
The reporter learned from the PBOC that a number of online and offline application models of digital RMB that can be copied and promoted are formed in wholesale and retail, catering, culture and travel, government payment and other fields. The scale of users, merchants and transactions in the pilot areas grows steadily, receiving sound responses in the market.
