Since the construction of the Fuzhou-Xiamen-Quanzhou (Fujian) National Innovation Demonstration Zone (NIDZ) was approved in 2016, significant results have been achieved through measures such as the introduction of implementation plans and the establishment of a leading group, special funds, and a coordination mechanism.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Fujian will accelerate its efforts in three aspects.

First, the effort to plan and build a technological innovation corridor. A batch of industrial parks with local features, innovation platforms and projects will be built and implemented, based on NIDZ and the three national-level innovative cities, namely Fuzhou, Xiamen and Quanzhou, and centered on the construction of the Fuzhou-Xiamen-Quanzhou Science City. The ultimate goal is to create a technological innovation corridor along the axis of Fuzhou, Xiamen and Quanzhou. The corridor will play a catalytic role in promoting the innovation and development of the whole province.

Second, the effort to build the Fuzhou-Xiamen-Quanzhou Science City The Science City in Southeast China (Fujian) will be built, base on Fuzhou High-tech Industrial Development Zone (FHTZ) and Fuzhou University Town. Efforts will be made in helping Xiamen build the Xiamen Science City based on Xiamen University, Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory in Xiamen, Fujian and the "Three Valleys" (Intelligence Valley, Cloud Valley, Creative Valley) in Tong'an, Xiamen. Besides, Quanzhou will build its Time Service Center with the support from the National Time Service Center (NTSC) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Third, the effort to build a high-level pioneer area of innovative development. The effort of promoting the high-quality development of FHTZ will be led by the effort of building NIDZ. Both zones will be developed into pilot areas for high-quality development. Efforts will be made in supporting NIDZ and high-tech zones inside Fujian province to jointly build more than 100 collaborative innovative platforms. The joint development of NIDZ and the high-tech zones will be advanced so as to achieve the full coverage of high-tech zones across Fujian Province.
