The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) recently released the list of the fifth batch of entities to be recognized as national-level industrial design centers. Peak’s Sport Products, SEMS, Newland’s Payment Technology (NPT), King Long, Linde Material Handling and Dnake were the 6 newly added national-level industrial design centers from Fujian, together with 2 national-level industrial design enterprises, namely Harbin Institute of Technology Engineering Technology Research Institute in Fujian (Quanzhou) and Fujian Huayi Design. So far, 25 entities from our province have joined the list of national-level industrial design centers, ranking fourth in terms of the total number in China.

A national industrial design center is an industrial design center or industrial design enterprise recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for its strong industrial design and innovation capabilities, distinctive features, standardized management, outstanding performance, and advanced development level in the country. Shandong, Guangdong, and Zhejiang rank top three in China with 44, 37, and 32 entities on the list respectively.

In recent years, Fujian has attached great importance to the transformation of manufacturing enterprises to the business model "manufacturing + service". In 2020, seven departments jointly issued the Implementation Opinions on the Special Action Plan for Enhancement of Manufacturing Design Capabilities in Fujian Province, including Fujian Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology and Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission. The Opinions proposed that by 2023, Fujian would build about 100 provincial-level industrial design centers and more than 20 national-level industrial design centers. Till now, Fujian has 84 provincial-level industrial design centers and 25 national-level industrial design centers. Fujian Ceramic Industry Design and Research Institute is also one of the first national industrial design and research institutes.
