The "2021 China Fujian (Yong'An) Graphene Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition and Project Achievement Matchmaking Meeting" recently came to an end. During the meeting, the CCID Research Institute of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the China Graphene Industry Development Competitiveness Index (2021).

China's Graphene Industry Development Competitiveness Index (2021) gives an objective, comprehensive and systematic evaluation and analysis of the development stage, level and characteristics of the graphene industry in 31 provinces (regions, cities) in China from three key aspects, namely development environment, industrial development, innovation capabilities. Generally, the graphene industry of China is distributed in the pattern of a three-stage echelon. The development of the graphene industry has entered a "plateau period", and the regions at advantage will become even stronger. The first echelon has 7 provinces and cities, with a leading development level in China. Jiangsu Province ranks first with an index of 87.54, and Fujian Province has jumped from the second echelon last year to the first echelon this year, with an index of 75.22.

The index shows that the overall development of China's graphene industry is featured by the “one point and two lines” distribution pattern. The industrialization level of Jiangsu Province continues to be the top in China. Over half of new companies are from five provinces including Shandong, Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Fujian. In general, the industrial competition level in the eastern and western regions has not changed much compared with last year. The industrialization of medicine and public health, thermal management, and other sectors has accelerated. The industrial layout is dominated by the coastal areas in eastern China. The distribution of the graphene development environment index in various regions across China shows a obvious tiered pattern, and the top-level design has been continuously improved. 17 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) clearly stated in the 14th Five-Year Plan that the graphene industry should be the priority of development. Regions differ to some extent in the graphene innovation capability index, with Beijing maintaining its leading position.
