By the end of October, the lithium-ion battery industry of Ningde City, Fujian Province has completed an output value of 110 billion yuan. The lithium-ion battery industry has become the second 100-billion-yuan-level industrial cluster of the city after the stainless-steel new material industry.

Advanced technologies are the core driving force for the industry to grow bigger and stronger. At present, Ningde city has established the only national engineering research center for electrochemical energy storage technologies in China, which is also the largest one in Asia. The 21C innovation laboratory under construction is one of the four innovation laboratories in Fujian Province, equipped with an R&D team engaged in the research and development of materials and products, engineering design, testing and verification, and manufacturing, etc. The technical layout of a full industrial chain covering "materials→processing technology→equipment→battery cells→modules→battery packs→battery management system (BMS)→battery recycling and dismantling→material recycling" has been formed. The laboratory has so far successfully applied for more than 6000 patents and is the first to roll out the sodium-ion battery in the world.

The chain projects of lithium-ion battery industry in Ningde have extended to Gutian, Pingnan, Fu'an, Fuding, Xiapu, Shouning, and other surrounding counties in Fujian Province. An industrial pattern that supports each other and connects cities across Fujian Province with a tiered layout has been formed, and an industrial cluster with regional characteristics of Ningde has come into being.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Ningde City will focus on promoting the projects including the capacity expansion of the CATL Fuding Base and the CATL FAW, as well as the construction of the CATL Sanduao New Base, and accelerate the integration and expansion of consumer batteries and power batteries to the comprehensive energy storage, application and key equipment manufacturing of photovoltaic energy. By then, the lithium battery production capacity of the city will exceed 400GWh, and the entire industry chain will have an output value of 400 billion yuan. A “global new energy and new material industry core area” will come into being and will become a world hub of lithium batteries.
