At a pivotal moment in the global race for solid-state battery technology, a Xiamen company has once again achieved remarkable results through independent innovation. Sinolong New Materials Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Sinolong New Materials") recently announced that its subsidiary, Xiamen Changsu Industrial Ltd., has successfully developed the industry's first BOPA (biaxially oriented polyamide) film specifically for solid-state batteries, bridging a significant technological gap. This accomplishment underscores China's leadership in core materials for new energy. This breakthrough not only highlights the company's technological expertise but also exemplifies Xiamen's commitment to innovation and progress in the new energy sector.

Solid-state batteries are considered the "ultimate solution" for next-generation power sources due to their high energy density, superior safety, and long cycle life. However, their commercialization faces three major challenges: materials technology, production processes, and cost control. The encapsulation material, acting as the battery's "armor," must be flexible, puncture-resistant, and impact-resistant, posing a significant technical challenge.

After two years of dedicated research, the Sinolong New Materials R&D team has developed a BOPA film tailored for solid-state batteries. This was achieved by optimizing production processes and innovating material formulations to meet the unique demands of solid electrolytes and challenging usage environments. The material boasts excellent mechanical properties, offering flexibility, puncture resistance, and impact resistance, effectively protecting the battery's internal components. The head of R&D at Sinolong New Materials stated, "The successful development of this product will ensure a stable and reliable supply of domestically produced materials for the forthcoming large-scale industrialization of solid-state batteries."

Behind Sinolong New Materials' technological breakthroughs is Xiamen's strategic support and forward-thinking approach to the new energy industry. In recent years, Xiamen has prioritized new energy as a key strategic emerging industry, promoting the integration of the industrial, innovation, and capital chains within its "4+4+6" modern industrial system. Leading companies like CATL, CALB, and Hithium Energy Storage have established a presence in Xiamen, attracting a cluster of upstream and downstream enterprises. In 2024, the output value of Xiamen's new energy industry increased by 19.4% year-on-year, becoming the core engine of industrial economic growth. Meanwhile, major projects like CALB's high-performance lithium battery and the second phase of the Ampace lithium-ion battery production base are advancing rapidly, continuously strengthening the industry's momentum.

Xiamen's new materials industry is also making significant strides. Huatan Technology has mastered the mass production of single-walled carbon nanotubes, achieving performance on par with international giants. Zhongxin New Carbon has overcome challenges in preparing mesophase pitch, targeting high-end aerospace materials. Juci Technology ranks among the global leaders in aluminum nitride powder production capacity... Local state-owned capital supports enterprises in overcoming technological barriers by investing early, investing small, and focusing on hard technology. In 2024, new material companies in Xiamen are actively securing financing, with their hard technology attributes being highly recognized by the capital market.

Currently, Xiamen is establishing three provincial innovation laboratories: Jiageng, Xiangan, and Lujiang. It has attracted over 30 leading institutions, including the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to develop large-scale scientific research infrastructure for intelligent energy storage. Xiamen Science City is transitioning from "building a framework" to "enhancing functions," continuously establishing new research and development institutions. With over 1,800 companies settled in the core park, it has become a "strong magnetic field" for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.

Analysts believe that with the support of policies, capital, and talent, Xiamen enterprises are reinforcing the foundation of the new energy industry through "hardcore technology" innovation, contributing "Xiamen strength" to China's and the global green transition.
