Recently, the project for the Fujian Green Hydrogen Pilot Test Base received official approval from the Fujian Provincial Development and Reform Commission, marking another significant advancement in the development of the green hydrogen industry in Fujian.

The Fujian Green Hydrogen Pilot Test Base Project is a collaborative effort between Fujian Energy Petrochemical Group and Academician Zheng Nanfeng of the Tan Kah Kee Innovation Laboratory, Xiamen University. Fujian Energy Petrochemical Group serves as the leader in the hydrogen energy industrial chain across the province, with its subsidiary hydrogen energy company taking the primary role in executing this project. During the project's progression, they remained focused on target milestones and strengthened resource allocation. After two months of intensive efforts, they successfully completed over 10 specialized evaluations. These included determining supporting wind turbine locations, conducting site selection analysis, reviewing land-saving measures, performing social stability analysis, conducting a preliminary land use assessment, making regulatory planning adjustments, and preparing the feasibility study report. This efficiently concluded the preliminary work for the project.

Hydrogen energy, a secondary energy source recognized for its abundant sources, environmentally friendly and low-carbon characteristics, and diverse applications, is anticipated to be a crucial element of China’s future national energy system. The project aims to conduct a pilot test for hydrogen production through water electrolysis using fluctuating wind power as well as the application and consumption of green hydrogen. It seeks to establish a demonstration platform for diversified utilization of green hydrogen production and hydrogen-based energy, build a standardized energy system evaluation center, a green hydrogen application safety testing and verification center, and a hydrogen energy equipment testing and certification base. This project will accelerate the development of a demonstration chain of “offshore energy -- hydrogen storage -- hydrogen-based energy applications”. It will provide innovative solutions for the efficient utilization of large-scale deep-sea offshore wind power in Fujian Province and contribute to the construction of a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system.
