On July 9, the key national natural gas infrastructure interconnection project, the Zhangzhou City’s LNG outbound pipeline project, was officially put into operation after a successful 72-hour trial operation. Natural gas from the Zhangzhou City's LNG receiving terminal has started to be distributed within and beyond Fujian Province, signaling a notable increase in the natural gas supply capability in southeastern China.

The Zhangzhou City's LNG outbound pipeline project commences at the Zhangzhou City's LNG terminal and concludes at the Zhangzhou City's terminal station of the West-East Gas Transmission Pipeline Line 3. The project is divided into two sections: the connecting line and the extension segment. The pipeline runs through Longhai District, Zhangzhou High-tech Zone, Nanjing County, and Xiangcheng District, spanning approximately 120 kilometers. It serves as the exclusive route for exporting LNG natural gas from Zhangzhou City, with the capacity to transport around 4.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually from offshore to the national main oil and gas pipeline network. After the project is operational, it will supply gas to the market in Fujian Province and also provide peak-shaving and emergency gas supply to neighboring provinces like Jiangxi and Hunan. This will take advantage of the “Coordinated Nationwide Network”, strengthen the sea-and-land dual gas supply system in Fujian Province, optimize resource allocation, remove transportation bottlenecks for natural gas, and support the development of a green, low-carbon economy.

The Zhangzhou City's LNG outbound pipeline project is reportedly a supporting project of the Zhangzhou City's LNG project. The Zhangzhou City's LNG project is a part of the construction projects of the natural gas "Production Supply Storage and Marketing" system. It is the first newly constructed LNG receiving station to become operational since the establishment of the China Oil and Gas Pipeline Network Corporation. The first phase of the project involves an investment of approximately RMB 6.313 billion. After being operational, the annual LNG processing capacity can reach 3 million tons, with an estimated annual total output value of foreign trade and processing exceeding RMB 10 billion. This will meet the gas demands of 13 million households across Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangdong, and Zhejiang provinces. LNG, short for liquefied natural gas, is currently considered the cleanest, highest quality, and most efficient form of fossil energy in the world.

Zhangzhou City has been working on the construction of an LNG cold energy utilization comprehensive industrial park. Once completed, the industrial park is projected to generate an annual output value of around RMB 1 billion related to cold energy utilization.
