Four districts in Fujian are on the list of the “CCID Top 100 Districts”, published on August 8 by CCID, a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. They are Siming District in Xiamen, Gulou District in Fuzhou, Huli District in Xiamen, and Xinluo District in Longyan, ranking 24th, 27th, 56th, and 78th, respectively.
The districts were selected based on the “dual threshold” criteria, which required a GDP exceeding RMB 80 billion and a general public budgetary revenue surpassing RMB 2 billion. The evaluation process involved a comprehensive index system comprising 23 indicators to assess the high-quality development of urban areas across five dimensions: economic strength, growth potential, endogenous support, area functionality, and shared development. Notably, Nanshan District in Shenzhen has consistently claimed the top spot on the list for an impressive six years in a row.
According to research, five major trends are emerging in China’s urban development. Firstly, leading urban areas will overcome obstacles and embark on a new era of high-quality development. Secondly, by the end of 2025, the number of “RMB 100 billion urban districts” in China is expected to surpass 200. Thirdly, inland urban areas in central and western China will experience faster and higher-quality development. Fourthly, central districts of provincial sub-centers will elevate their status and play a more significant role in provincial economic growth. Lastly, urban areas distinguished by unique industries, strategic locations, or critical national infrastructure will exert substantial influence on a national and global scale.
Research also indicates that aside from the top 100 districts, there are other urban areas demonstrating high-quality economic development. Examples include Xiangcheng District in Zhangzhou and Zengcheng District in Guangzhou. These districts are currently undergoing rapid development and possess the potential to secure a place among the top 100 in the future.
