Cross-border tax service for non-resident entities has been launched by Xiamen E-Tax Bureau. This service provides great benefits for overseas entities which need to pay taxes when transferring equity in Chinese companies. These entities can register and log into Xiamen E-Tax Bureau to be granted with a unique taxpayer identification number which enables them to register, declare and pay taxes online with nationwide applicability.
Non-resident businesses refer to companies which are established in accordance with foreign or regional laws and regulations. Such businesses fall into two categories: those which have operations in China, but have no central management and control mechanisms located in the country, and those which have no operations in China, but have income from sources within China.
It is reported that this service is the first of its kind in the country. Experts at Xiamen Municipal Taxation Bureau explained that the service is a timely and effective response to enormous need for cross-border tax service, and to the implementation of the Opinions on Deepening Tax Reform promulgated by the General office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council.
