The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has recently selected 12 cities to develop ecological systems for certain industrial and supply chains as part of a pilot project. These cities are the first batch chosen for this purpose, and Ningde is one of them.

 In recent years, Ningde has been aggressively developing an industrial system based on its four major divisions, i.e., lithium batteries, stainless steel, new energy vehicles, and copper materials. With the addition of enterprises, under-construction projects, and under-negotiation projects growing, it is expected that the city will soon enter a “trillion dollar industrial era”.

Benefiting from the leading influence of CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited) and ATL (Amperex Technology Limited), two local companies spearheading the industry in renewable energy, Ningde’s industrial landscape has been rapidly expanding. It now includes essential materials, battery components, smart manufacturing, and service-oriented manufacturing and boasts a lithium battery industry cluster that leads the world. It has a planned total capacity of 500GWh for its battery production lines, and is already exceeding 300GWh for those in operation and under construction. Statistics show that in 2021, Ningde had 41 lithium battery companies above the state’s designated size, which had a combined output value of 158 billion yuan, an increase of 92.1% in output growth. The combined output value of CATL and ATL grew by 97.7% to 138.4 billion yuan, with the former contributing 99 billion yuan (an increase of 151.3%) and the latter 39.4 billion yuan (an increase of 28.8%), respectively.
