On April 13, the journalist learned from the Fujian Food Industry Association that in 2021, there are 2,368 food enterprises above designated size in Fujian Province, with an operating income of 666.048 billion yuan, ranking fourth in China (one place higher than the national ranking in 2020) and ranking first in the province's consumer goods industry.

Fujian Province has achieved three breakthroughs in the national food industry ranking in terms of business revenue in the past five years, and made its first breakthrough in the national ranking among provinces and cities, jumping from the seventh to the sixth in the country in 2018 and the fifth in the country in 2019. In 2020, affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the operation revenue of Fujian's food enterprises experienced a slight decline, but still held the fifth place in the country. In 2021, in the process of recovery and development after severe impacts from sudden COVID-19 outbreak and other situations, faced with the complicated environment of obvious increase in domestic and international risks and challenges and downward economic pressure, the revenue of food enterprises above designated size in Fujian Province continued to grow, and once again leapt to the fourth place in the country, reaching an operating income of 666.048 billion yuan, an increase of 8.7% over the same period of last year; to be specific, the revenue of agricultural and sideline food processing industry reached 348.489 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 10.4%; the food manufacturing industry earned a revenue of 173.239 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.2%; the revenue from the manufacturing industry of wine, beverages and refined tea was 110.615 billion yuan, an increase of 8.9% over the same period of last year; the tobacco products industry scored 33.705 billion yuan, up 8.9% year on year.

The food industry occupies an important position in the industrial structure of Fujian Province. Relying on Fujian's natural resources, geographical advantages, brand building and industrial clustering, as well as various preferential and favorable policies introduced by the government for the food industry, all localities, based on resource advantages, vigorously develop characteristic food industries, such as Nanping Sunner, Gutian edible mushrooms, Jian'ou bamboo shoots, Wuyi Mountain oolong tea, etc. by giving full play of ecological resource advantages to develop resource-based food industry in the mountainous area; Fuzhou, Ningde, Zhangzhou, Putian and other places play the advantages of proximity to the port, develop aquatic products processing, edible oil processing, can manufacturing, beer brewing and other port-based food industries; Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Xiamen and other cities, relying on innovation capability and e-commerce advantages, develop the leisure food manufacturing industry with raw materials sourced from overseas and products exported to foreign markets.
