On the 10th, China unveiled its first large-scale industry model for the shipbuilding and marine engineering sectors, named "Wen Yao", in Xiamen.
This model was collaboratively developed by the Xiamen University of Technology, Crowd Digital Technology (Xiamen) Co., Ltd. (referred to as "Crowd Digital Technology"), Fujian Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd., along with several other government, industry, academic, and research institutions. Its successful launch signifies a major advancement in the intelligent development of the shipbuilding and marine engineering sectors.
According to the introduction, "Wen Yao" is a multimodal self-developed industry model based on a general large model architecture. It employs a multi-modal fusion mechanism and integrates industry-specific knowledge, having undergone continuous training and optimization. This model is capable of managing tasks in specific fields such as ship design, performance prediction, and marine meteorological services, thereby enhancing efficiency in the shipbuilding and marine engineering sectors.
The shipbuilding and marine engineering sectors, as typical examples of discrete manufacturing, are characterized by technical complexity, small-scale production, and the involvement of a wide range of specialized and dispersed knowledge. These characteristics make it challenging for the sectors to establish a universal knowledge base, thereby affecting overall work efficiency and competitiveness. The development of "Wen Yao" is specifically targeted at addressing this industry challenge.
Since 2022, Dr. Wang Chiming from the School of Computer and Information Engineering at Xiamen University of Technology has led a team to successfully create a systematic intelligent platform. This platform integrates expertise from seven core areas: ship design, ship regulations, shipbuilding techniques, marine engineering standards, port and maritime meteorological services, maritime governance, as well as education and research. Based on this, "Wen Yao" can efficiently address complex tasks in shipbuilding and marine engineering projects by utilizing advanced technologies such as self-reflective chains, multimodal integration, and multi-agent collaboration. This significantly boosts efficiency in research and development, design, and production.
The "Wen Yao" is currently being utilized in the research, development, and design of green intelligent vessel projects, including new energy tugboats, offshore sightseeing boats, and Minjiang cargo ships. "'Wen Yao' has significantly enhanced the efficiency of ship design in areas such as professional documentation assistance, performance research, and the summarization of specialized technical achievements." At the press conference, Wang Chiming used the recent 5000-horsepower new energy tugboat development project as an example to showcase the powerful capabilities of "Wen Yao".
According to Wang Chiming, the introduction of "Wen Yao" has greatly accelerated the project’s development process. For example, in the phase of drawing 2D CAD ship diagrams, "Wen Yao" leverages multimodal intelligent agents and text-to-image technology to swiftly achieve preliminary generation and verification of ship appearances. By integrating image-to-image technology, it assists staff in the rapid design, specific area enhancement, and presentation of ship exterior designs. Additionally, "Wen Yao" can be tailored to meet project requirements, quickly adapting to industry changes to offer users precise decision-making support.
"'Wen Yao' enhances work efficiency through intelligent methods, reduces the likelihood of human error, and ensures the smooth progress of projects." Wu Bingkun, the founder and CEO of Crowd Digital Technology, stated that the "Wen Yao" large model demonstrates extensive application potential in areas such as shipbuilding, shipping management, and marine environmental monitoring. In the future, it is poised to become an indispensable intelligent tool within the industry, driving the digital transformation of the shipbuilding and marine engineering sectors.
