According to the latest statistics from the Fujian Provincial Administration for Market Regulation, as of the end of June, our province boasts 29 well-known geographical indication (GI) trademarks, ranking first in the country. Additionally, Fujian has 662 GI trademarks, placing it second nationwide. The province is also home to 74 Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) products and utilizes 3,444 special GI marks, the highest number in the country. GI products in our province span all counties, reaching over 500 towns and benefiting more than ten million rural residents.
The special mark for GIs denotes the official symbol applied to products that adhere to specific GI standards, management specifications, or usage guidelines. The GI industry in our province primarily encompasses the planting, breeding, and processing sectors. The GIs are categorized as follows: 432 for planting, 148 for breeding, and 156 for processing.
Ningde City, Quanzhou City, and Zhangzhou City boast the highest GI production values in the province. Zhangzhou City, Nanping City, and Ningde City hold the top three positions in the province for the number of GI trademarks, boasting 156, 111, and 95 trademarks respectively. Zhangzhou City leads all prefecture-level cities in China in the number of GI trademarks, while Yunxiao County holds the top spot among county-level administrative regions in the country for the same distinction.
Our province is proactively laying a robust foundation for regional GI protection and has secured approval to establish five national GI product protection demonstration zones, including Fujian Wuyishan, which are currently under development. Additionally, we have launched the nation's first provincial-level platform that comprehensively addresses the entire spectrum of GI registration, cultivation, usage management, and rights protection. This platform monitors major domestic e-commerce sites such as Tmall and JD.com, significantly enhancing the efficiency of GI network supervision.
Our province's key industries are expanding in scale and increasing revenue, driving the integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors. This growth promotes the continuous expansion of production and business operations in regional agriculture, livestock, and processing enterprises. By the end of 2023, the total output value of the province's GI industry reached 370.3 billion yuan. The top three GI industries by output value are Anxi Tieguanyin Tea, Pinghe Guanxi Pomelo, and Hui'an Stone Carving.
Our province has led the way in creating specialized financial products designed specifically for GIs, establishing a distinctive "Geographical Indication+" model. This innovative approach seeks to bolster financial support for the growth and advancement of the GI industry. Putian City promotes financial products such as "Geographical Indication Infringement Loss Insurance". Financial institutions in Lianjiang County have set up specialized branches dedicated to abalone farming and have developed exclusive financial products, including "Warehouse Loans", "Sea Area Loans", and "Fish Raft Loans". These initiatives aim to provide a stable financial foundation for aquaculture farmers. By the end of 2023, the balance of loans issued by financial institutions in the province to key industries reached 47.054 billion yuan, supporting over 400 related sectors.
