At the 2024 China Private Economy Development (Quanzhou) Forum on March 23rd, the 2024 China Private Economy Industrial Clusters Research Report was unveiled, revealing the top 100 industrial clusters in China for 2024. Fujian stood out on this list with six prominent industrial clusters: Textile and Footwear in Jinjiang, Machinery Equipment in Quanzhou, Building Materials and Home Furnishings in Quanzhou, Power Battery in Ningde, Textile in Fuzhou, and Electronic Information in Xiamen.

The research report was jointly released by the China Institute of Private Sector and Beijing Shangqi Digital Technology Co., Ltd. It focuses on over 2,000 private economic industrial clusters across the country, delving into their development characteristics, regional distribution, types of clusters, and growth trends. The report has established an evaluation index system based on five key criteria: innovation capability, development potential, degree of concentration, green and low-carbon practices, and level of openness. This has resulted in the creation of the top 100 list of private economic industrial clusters for 2024.

China's top 100 industrial clusters are located in 20 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, with a concentration in cities in the eastern part of the country. Anhui, Jiangxi, Fujian, Shandong, and Shanghai are the five provinces and municipalities that each host five to eight industrial clusters. These clusters are mainly found in first-tier cities and regions with active private enterprises. Fujian stands out with six of its industrial clusters making the list, spread across Quanzhou (3 clusters), Fuzhou (1 cluster), Xiamen (1 cluster), and Ningde (1 cluster). Major private economy provinces such as Fujian, Guangdong, and Zhejiang are prioritizing technological innovation, industrial upgrading, and the development of new quality productive forces. They are fostering industrial clusters through the “chain governor + chain leader system,” focusing on strengthening these clusters and solidifying their supply chains to enhance industrial competitiveness.

According to the Research Report, China’s top 100 industrial clusters have collectively been granted 487,000 patents, marking a 30% increase year-over-year, with private enterprises accounting for approximately 80% of these. Patents granted in five major industrial clusters—new energy vehicles, equipment manufacturing, integrated circuits, new displays, and biomedicine - comprise nearly half of the total, positioning them at the forefront of industrial clusters.
