Fuzhou and Xiamen Ports in Fujian Province were ranked among the global top 30 in terms of cargo throughput, and Fuzhou, Xiamen and Quanzhou Ports were ranked among the world’s top 100 container ports, according to the rankings for 2022 released by the Shanghai International Shipping Research Center.
Among the world’s top 50 ports in terms of cargo throughput in 2022, Fuzhou Port handled 302 million tons of cargos, ranking 19th, up three spots from 2021, entering the global top 20 for the first time. Xiamen Port handled 219 million tons of cargos, up two places from 2021, entering the global top 30 for the first time. When measured using the same statistical standards, the cargo throughput of Xiamen Port and Fuzhou Port were much higher than that of Kaohsiung Port.
Xiamen, Fuzhou and Quanzhou Ports in Fujian Province all earned a place among the world’s top 100 container ports. In 2022, Xiamen Port’s container throughput reached 12.43 million TEUs. Due to the integration of Antwerp and Zeebrugge Ports in Belgium and the combined throughput statistics of the two ports, Xiamen Port dropped one spot from 2021 to 14th; its container throughput exceeded Kaohsiung Port’s by 2.94 million TEUs, four sports ahead of the latter in the global rankings. Fuzhou Port ranked 57th with 3.46 million TEUs, up one place from 2021, while Quanzhou Port ranked 91st with 2.08 million TEUs, up eight places from 2021.
According to the statistics published with the rankings, the cargo throughput of the world’s top 50 ports in 2022 increased 1.3% on average, while that of Fujian ports rose 3.2%. The container throughput of the world’s top 100 container ports went up 1.1% in 2022, while that of Fujian ports grew 3.1%.
