BOPA, the abbreviation of Biaxially Oriented Polyamide (nylon) film, is an important material used to produce different types of composite packaging materials. It is now the third important packaging material after BOPP and BOPET. Compared with other kinds of films, BOPA owns higher strength than PE and BOPP, lower cost and better environmental protection than EVOH and PVDC. It is an ideal material for food and aroma preservation, especially suitable for freezing, cooking and vacuum packaging, poisonless and harmless. Construction Reason: With the development of the food industry and continuous consumption increase of processed food, domestic demand for food packaging film increases progressively year after year. According to preliminary estimation, China’s annual consumption of food packaging film is greater than 4,000,000t, among which BOPP and BOPET take a market share higher than 95%. BOPA enters the market late, but develops very fast now. The nationwide output of BOPA was 74,000t in 2011 and increased to 127,000t in 2015; the operating rate of BOPA-producing facilities reached 82%, obviously higher than that of BOPP and BOPET, showing a good development momentum. According to the requirements for food safety and hygiene, domestic demand for BOPA is predicted to increase at an annual rate of 10% in the future, realizing 200,000t in 2022 possibly. Fujian Province enjoys a developed food processing industry and the candies and pastries produced are sold all over the country. As a result, it has a certain demand for BOPA. Moreover, the world largest PA6 - raw material adopted to make BOPA - production base is built in Kemen Economic Development Zone, creating favorable conditions for the production of BOPA. For this reason, the New Materials Industrial Park of Lianjiang Kemen Economic Development Zone plans to build BOPA Film Project.

New Materials Industry

In recent years, Fujian Province has seen a growing agglomeration effect in its new materials industry, with a gradually improving innovation system and an expanding variety of materials. The production processes and output of stainless steel materials, ternary cathode materials, tungsten wire for lighting, high-performance automotive aluminum alloy sheets, laser and nonlinear optical crystals and devices, among others, rank among the highest in China. Leading enterprises such as Tsingtuo Group, CATL, Highsun Holding Group, Xiamen Tungsten, Zijin Mining Group, and Deer Technology have been cultivated. Driven by these industry leaders, Fujian has initially formed influential specialty new materials clusters, including lithium battery materials, stainless steel materials, advanced functional textile materials, advanced chemical materials, rare earth materials, and graphene.
